Before completing my internship at the Committee of 100, I had no idea what I was getting myself into. Although I had read through their website, I still did not understand what type of work was done here and what skills or qualities were required. But as my internship was coming to an end, I got a better and wider acknowledgement of the activities and the purpose of this peace organization through my given tasks.
On the first day of my TET-week, I was nervous and confused because I had no idea what I was required from, but this did not seem to bother my employers; they gave me aid when I needed it and were friendly throughout the internship. I started the week by doing a little inquiry about the people working here and what I will need to accomplish throughout the week.
As I started familiarizing with my tasks, I started feeling more comfortable working at the Committee of 100. I got more responsibilities for now I had an idea about this organization and the global matters which are affected by the activities taken into action to prevent usage of e.g. nuclear weapons and cluster munitions. Additionally, I got to know that the Committee of 100 promotes peace and tries convincing governments to fulfill human need necessities. I even got a chance to have a say in how to spread the new selfie campaign and unknowingly, my ideas were taken into consideration and I got the chance to execute them; my idea was to have posters related to this campaign in public areas to spread awareness about the amount of money used for military expenses.
In addition to my previous task, I also got a chance to attend a conference at the mini Parliament House as well as a seminar. During this period, I learnt a lot about Finland and what actions are considered globally (related to peace) and how it will affect our future. It was a thrilling experience because nothing like this has ever happened to me before.
All in all, I have had a great and fantastic time here at the Committee of 100. It has really helped me broaden my understanding about peace and taught me how a tiny thing can make a big difference. I would recommend an internship at the Committee of 100 to anyone because this place is not about interest; it is about your responsibilities as a human being which are required to be fulfilled.
